UBC Myanmar Intitiative
Organisers and Sponsors
The UBC Myanmar Initiative has supported researchers and democratization in Myanmar since 2017. It is enabled by the University of British Columbia (UBC) and generous support from IDRC’s Knowledge for Democracy Myanmar (K4DM) initiative.
The UBC Myanmar Initiative is led by Kai Ostwald, an Associate Professor at UBC’s School of Public Policy & Global Affairs and the Department of Political Science, and Director of UBC’s Institute of Asian Research.
The Initiative receives extensive support from UBC PhD Candidate (Political Science) Isabel Chew, UBC PhD student (Political Science) Constant Courtin, and Cornell University Visiting Research Nay Yan Oo. UBC faculty members Richard Barichello (LFS) and Yves Tiberghien (Political Science) have contributed towards the initiative’s creation.
The UBC initiative is made possible through generous grants from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC)’s Knowledge for Democracy Myanmar (K4DM) Initiative.
K4DM is a five-year partnership with Global Affairs Canada to nurture a new generation of young actors towards promoting inclusion, gender equality, respect for diversity, and prosperity for all in Myanmar. UBC’s initiative is one of 18 different projects supported by K4DM.
The UBC initiative is thankful for the tireless support from IDRC’s K4DM team.
